LONG-TERM MINISTRY SERVICE TEAMS

 

BENEVOLENCE TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to provide meaningful and personal ministry to those with urgent human needs.
  • This team will be involved with developing an ongoing calendar for scheduling team members to deliver donated items to the White Rock Center of Hope; and discovering and implementing new ways to minister to Lakesiders and those in the community with benevolence needs; etc.
CHILDREN’S TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to encourage, enlist, support and assist is providing a quality and meaningful children’s ministry for the church.
  • This team will be involved in assisting the Minister of Childhood Education with current programs, and planning and developing new opportunities within the children’s ministry. 
COMMUNICATIONS TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to promote and make known Lakeside Baptist Church, and to discover and implement creative methods for conveying a positive and clear church image to church members and the community.
  • This team will be involved with such things as discovering and implementing various communication venues; updating and maintaining an appealing web site; and designing churchwide brochures and a new VHS/ DVD for outreach efforts; etc.
CREATIVE WORSHIP TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to develop creative ways to lead the church to be authentically engaged in worshipping God.
  • This team will be involved with assisting the Pastor and Minister of Music in planning worship opportunities and developing worship ministries such as drama, musicals, concerts, etc.
DISCIPLESHIP TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to develop and implement various discipleship opportunities to encourage passionate relationships with Christ and to become mature in their personal spiritual growth.
  • This team will be involved with making recommendations regarding discipleship opportunities; and developing a vibrant Men’s Ministry and Women’s Ministry; etc.
EVANGELISM TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to develop creative missional opportunities in evangelizing people throughout our community and world.
  • This team will be involved in planning and coordinating ministry events such as Prison Ministry; Seven Wonders book community distribution; free car wash; Backyard Bible Clubs; hosting neighborhood cookouts; and a White Rock Marathon ministry; etc.
FOCUSED ACTIVITIES TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to provide quality inreach/ outreach opportunities through sports and recreational activities for church members and those living in our community.
  • This team will be involved with coordinating Lakeside’s Upward sports ministries, Fellowship Circles; Ministry Fairs; and developing effective ways to use the Family Center and related ministries to reach people for Christ; etc.
HOSPITALITY & FELLOWSHIP TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to provide opportunities to nurture the fellowship within the church.
  • This team will be responsible for maintaining church decorations, including seasonally decorating the handicap ramp planter area, and assist as needed in decorations for the banquets, parties and receptions and other common areas of the church campus as defined by the team.
  • Some members of this team should be assigned the responsibility of the kitchen and one member will be designated as the sub-team leader to handle this area. This would include any and all meals, and other church-wide fellowships. Additional responsibilities would include:
  • They could help plan theme nights for Wednesday nights.
  • Consider the general operation of the kitchen areas.
  • Include menu oversight, evaluation of equipment and recommendations for improvement, suggestions for meal prices, and enforcing reservation rules.
  • They will not give oversight or direction to the paid personnel, nor purchase equipment. The appropriate committees will need to be informed of those needs.
  • Review, update and maintain kitchen use policies.
LIBRARY TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to provide library resources to educate believers toward mature discipleship, to equip them for teaching and ministering to others, and to enrich their quality of life.
  • This team will be involved in effectively communicating information regarding the Library ministry; and provide assistance and creative feedback to the Librarian as requested; etc.
ORDINANCES TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to prepare for and assist in the observances of the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism.
  • This team will be involved with overseeing and facilitating the preparation of all aspects of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism ordinances; and studying and making recommendations regarding new approaches relating to the ordinances of the church; etc.
PRAYER MINISTRY TEAM

  • The overall ministry purpose of this team is to pray for Lakeside and to encourage, facilitate and lead in prayer opportunities for our church.
  • This team will be made up of prayer warriors who have a real heart for taking all the needs of our church family to the throne of Grace.  They will be involved in praying for the sick, praying for the concerns of the church, and keeping Lakeside close to God’s ears.  They will develop prayer-training classes, sponsor Prayerwalks, develop a Prayer Chapel Ministry, and promote a vibrant prayer atmosphere for Lakeside Baptist Church, etc.


  

CHURCH COMMITTEES

 

COMMITTEE ON COMMITTEES

This committee shall consist of six elected members.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
At least one-half of the committee shall be newly elected each year.

  • Members shall be nominated by the Nominating Committee with the counsel of the Pastor, the Administrator, the Minister of Education and the Chairman of the Deacons.
  • This committee shall serve January 1 through December 31.
  • The committee is to present to the church by January 1 of each year candidates for chairpersons and members of all other standing committees.  Throughout each year the committee will present to the church nominations to fill any vacancies that may occur in these committees and nominations for any temporary committees that the church may authorize.  All such nominations shall be consistent with Article II, Section 2 of the church Bylaws and this Committee Manual.
CONSTITUTION & BY-LAWS COMMITTEE

This committee shall consist of six elected members.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
The duties of this committee shall be:

  • To be responsible for writing the church Constitution, Bylaws and Committee Manual or for preparing amendments and/or revisions to the current Constitution, Bylaws and Committee Manual in response to church needs.
  • To be responsible for promoting awareness and understanding of the church Bylaws, procedures and policies among the church membership and in particular among the church leadership including the ministerial and professional staff, committee chairpersons and Deacon and church organization officers.
  • Periodically compare actual church procedures and functions with those outlined in the Constitution, Bylaws and Committee Manual.  In areas where actual procedures and functions differ from those outlined in these documents, take steps to encourage and bring about better compliance with these documents or propose appropriate amendments and/or revisions to these documents.
  • Periodically review the Articles of Incorporation of Lakeside Baptist Church on file with the Secretary of State of Texas.  Recommend to the church any needed amendments to these Articles consistent with the Constitution, Bylaws and other established church procedures and policies.
FINANCE COMMITTEE

This committee shall be composed of twelve elected members.  Insofar as possible at least one member from each major organization of the church (Bible Study, Discipleship Training, Baptist Men, W.M.U. and Deacons) shall be included.  The Church Treasurer will be an ex-officio member.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
The duties of this committee shall be:

  • To be responsible for the budget planning process and assist in securing subscriptions to underwrite the adopted budget.
  • To lead the church in an educational and enlistment program concerning tithing and offerings.
  • To plan and direct all campaigns for funds.
  • To consider unanticipated expenditures proposed by any group or individual of the church but not included in the church budget, and to make recommendations to the Deacons and church concerning accounts from which the funds will be allocated.
  • To write or periodically review and modify as needed a set of standard policies and procedures pertaining to the church financial management.  These policies and procedures shall be submitted to the church for approval by two-thirds vote of all members present and voting at a regular business meeting.
  • To perform the services above in accordance with Article IV of the church Bylaws.
  • To select and supervise several church members who will serve as the Counting Subcommittee.  Members of this subcommittee may serve on a continual basis, subject to annual Finance Committee approval.  Each subcommittee member shall be enlisted annually.  The Finance Committee shall designate a chairperson for the subcommittee who will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling work.
  • At least four members of the Counting Subcommittee shall count all Bible Study and morning worship offerings and at least two members shall deposit the same in the night depository of the church's bank.  The Finance Committee shall assist the Counting Subcommittee in establishing procedures to do this work efficiently and consistent with Article IV, Section 2 of the church Bylaws.
  • To review the policies which provide for development and implementation of internal control procedures, review of internal control procedures and improving procedures as may be recommended from time to time. 
  • To review internal control procedures for receiving and disbursing all church funds which are consistent with church Bylaws for the safeguarding of church assets. 
  • To engage each year a qualified person to perform a thorough review of the church financial records and report findings and any recommendations to the Committee. 
  • To perform a formal internal control evaluation of the church’s finance and accounting activities at least once every three years.  A report of the findings of the evaluation shall be presented to the Committee and to the membership at a church business meeting. 
INSURANCE COMMITTEE

This committee shall consist of six elected members.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
The duties of this committee shall be:

  • To review the insurance program of the church at least twice a year to make sure the church property is fully covered.
  • To purchase within budget limitations insurance policies covering the church property.
  • To secure a complete inventory of all church property from the Properties Committee as available.
MISSIONS COMMITTEE

The Missions Committee shall consist of six elected members.  The directors of Baptist Men and W.M.U. will be ex-officio members.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
The duties of this committee shall be:

  • To develop the interest of the church membership in an expanding missionary program.
  • To make recommendations to the church for aiding mission activities within budget limitations.
  • To formulate plans for church approval for the carrying on of mission activities in approved locations.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE

This committee shall consist of six elected members nominated by the Committee on Committees.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
At least three of the six members shall be newly elected each year for a term of two years.
The duties of this committee shall be:

  • To present nominations each year to the church prior to Promotion Sunday for the following officers:
  • Bible Study Director, General Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Division Directors, Cradle Roll Director, Homebound Director, Van Ministry Director, Greeters Director, Media Library Director, Church Clerk, Church Treasurer, Committee on Committees, Discipleship Training Director, and Director of W.M.U. on recommendation of the W.M.U.  After the election of these officers, they will become ex-officio members of the Nominating Committee.
  • To present nominations for Bible Study Department Directors, and all other officers and teachers.
  • To present nominations to fill vacancies in the above church offices which may occur during the church year.
PERSONNEL COMMITTEE

This committee shall be composed of nine elected members.  The Chairman of the Deacons will be an ex-officio member.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
The duties of this committee shall be:

  • To be acquainted with the duties of the church staff and the personnel requirements of the church.
  • To fill vacancies among church ministerial and professional staff (except for Pastor) in accordance with Article II, Section 1, Paragraph B of the Bylaws.  To oversee the employment and separation of non-ministerial church employees.
  • To meet with the church staff from time to time and consider any matters they may request or the committee may deem wise to discuss with the staff.
  • To make recommendations to the Deacons and church pertaining to the church staff.
  • To make recommendations to the Finance Committee regarding compensation and benefits to be paid to all church employees.
  • To write and periodically review and, as necessary, update or rewrite the Personnel Policy Manual.  This Manual shall be submitted to the church for approval by two-thirds vote of all members present and voting at a regular business meeting.
PRESCHOOL COMMITTEE

This committee shall consist of nine elected members.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
Duties of this committee shall be:

  • To oversee the Nursery, Mother's Day Out, MOPS and other programs provided through our church facilities for preschool children.
  • To control the finances for any of the programs which have fees or tuitions involved in their operations, including making recommendations to the Finance Committee (or Personnel Committee) annually at budget preparation time concerning salaries, hourly rates, etc. for paid workers in preschool programs.
  • To assist with the coordinatitng of acivities (training sessions, Preschool family events, parent meetings).
  • To communicate with church, parents and teachers.
  • To establish mutual short and long-range goals.
  • To formulate policies and procedures with regard to the Preschool area.
PROPERTIES COMMITTEE

This committee shall consist of six members.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
This committee is to oversee the following:

  • The proper housekeeping, maintenance and repair of all the church buildings.
  • The opening and closing of the buildings for all church functions.
  • The proper heating and cooling of the buildings.
  • That the church grounds be kept neat and beautiful.
  • That the sidewalks, drives and parking areas be properly maintained.
  • The proper purchase, within the budget limitations, of the necessary supplies and equipment to accomplish the above duties.
  • Possession of an inventory of all equipment and furnishings belonging to the church and furnishing the Administrator and Insurance Committee with a copy of said inventory as updated.
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

This committee shall consist of six elected members.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
At least two of the six members shall be rotated each year.
The duties of the committee shall be:

  • To determine the amount of interest income available each year from the fund and disburse in accordance with the Committee's perception of need and worthiness.
  • To review the applications for scholarship funding considering financial need, church membership and participation, spiritual maturity and career objectives.
  • To give special consideration to students attending Southern Baptist colleges, universities and seminaries and to students feeling a call to church related careers, although the scholarship is not limited to those students.
  • Application Process:
  • Each student must complete and return the application by the designated deadline date.  The applicant must include a transcript of grades and two recommendations (one of which must be from a church staff member) as a prerequisite for consideration.
  • The scholarship funds will be distributed directly to the institution in the student's name to be applied to the student's account.
TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

The Transportation Committee shall consist of three elected members.  The Chairpersons of the Focused Activities and Youth Committees will be ex-officio members.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
The duties of this committee are:

  • To oversee the use of the church buses and vans, including recommending rules for bus/van usage to the church and seeing that those rules are enforced.
  • To see that the buses and vans are kept in good repair within budget limitations.
  • To assist in other transportation matters when requested.
  • To evaluate the need for the selection of new buses or vans and to recommend such action to the church.
YOUTH COMMITTEE

The Youth Committee shall consist of nine elected members.  (Per Bylaws, the Pastor may appoint two ex-officio members.)
The duties of the Youth Committee shall be:

  • To serve as a liaison and channel of communication between parents, participating youth and the Minister of Youth and Activities.
  • To make suggestions to the Minister of Youth and Activities concerning the needs and merits of the youth program.
  • To counsel with the Minister of Youth and Activities on his proposed programs and activities.
